How do I change a .doc document to a .jpg or .tif?

I am trying to upload my resume into an online application that requests that I limit my file types to .jpg or .tif. When I tried to save my resume with a different extension, Microsoft Word does not offer these as options to save the file as...if I just save it using one of these extensions, will my file remain intact?
